Qiantang River Tide-Observing Festival

Venue: Yanguan, Haining County, Hangzhou (Zhejiang)

The tides of the Qiantang River are a natural wonder. When the tides come in, the water and sky are linked together, and are accompanied by a thundering sound. With water that rises several meter high, the scene of rolling waves is magnificent. Since the Han and Tang dynasties, people have observed the river's tides. This custom is carried on today. At the opening ceremony, local song and dance performances are presented. During the festival, ethnic group songs and dances are performed. In addition, business talks and other folk activities are held.
